One of the foundations of The Art Farm is “Paying it Forward”. Whether you enroll in a class, sign up for preschool, celebrate your birthday party or join us for summer camp you will be helping children in need. Mari’s children was founded by The Art Farm’s director Mari Linnman in 2005. The organization works closely with The Art Farm camp in the Hamptons as well as The Art Farm in the City. There is a yearly carnival in Bridgehampton every August and there is a weekly Friday’s Farmers Market where the children sell all the baked goods that they have made during the week. All the proceeds go to the charity. The Art Farm in the City’s toy store donates 15% and both companies donate a percentage of their yearly profits.
Our funds from 2005 gave us the opportunity to team up with Rebuilding Sri Lanka where we now have a sister school in Hambontato, 80% of the children lost a relative in the Tsunami.
We were also part of a team that renovated the Rohana School for blind and deaf, an 80 year old school that had never been renovated. The children slept on 80 year old mattresses, had holes in the floor for bathrooms, and were not well cared for by a staff that did not even master the sign language. Now they have nice new beds, fans, their own little closet, new bathrooms and a wonderful staff that treats them really well.
In 2006 we collected 200 soccer balls and gave them to two local schools in Costa Rica in order to give the children an interest in sports to keep them off the streets where drugs is often a threat to the young.
We are building a daycare center in Thailand in a town that was washed out in the Tsunami, as well as sponsoring AIDS orphans in order to go to school.
If you are interested in donating to Mari’s Children we are a registered 501C charity and your donations are fully tax deductible.
Mari travels personally to see each project and funds her own travel so that every dollar that you donate goes directly to the children.
